Why Film?

Over the past five years, I have found myself intently learning about the constantly changing world of video production and post-production. During my time at the University of Missouri's School of Journalism, I have fallen in love with documentary filmmaking and I apply the major concepts of the medium throughout my work.

In addition to my school work and employment, I have been able to manage a freelance business that has taught me many hard and important lessons. I have been fortunate enough to make wedding films, commercial and advertising content, motion graphics, logos and website designs for clients of all sorts.

My love for documentary started when I was young. From seventh grade through eleventh grade, I participated in the National History Day documentary competition. Creating and editing short historical pieces, with a particular focus on rural Missouri history, helped me grow and develop my filmmaking style and voice.

My sophomore and junior years of high school, I was able to secure a spot at the national competition at the University of Maryland. The film that I submitted my junior year, 'Out on the Roadside', was selected to screen at the Oprah Winfrey Theater at the Smithsonian's Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC. This incredible moment inspired me to continue to pursue this art form.

I love to give back to the organization that helped me find my passion. Every year since graduating high school, I have been a judge at the Missouri NHD documentary completion.
